Frindle was the first book written by author, Andrew Clements. Mr. Clements used to be a teacher and then began writing books, he has written many popular books since he became an author.
Nick is the main character in Frindle. Nick goes to school but he doesn’t love school. One of his teachers in particular really gets on his nerves. She is always making Nick look words up in the dictionary, and he can’t stand it.
One day Nick decides he wants to make up his own word. He decides from then on the word “frindle” will describe the object previously labeled as “pen.” Whenever someone asks Nick to borrow a pen, he says, “Do you mean a frindle?” Well, the word frindle catches on quickly and everyone at school is using it. Even the newspaper gets involved. Nick’s teacher, meanwhile, is not so thrilled about this new word that isn’t in the dictionary.

This is a funny book that I think you will enjoy. Who knows, maybe you’ll invent some new words along the way!
