The Westing Game

The Westing Game was written by Ellen Raskin. Ms. Raskin grew up during the Great Depression and was an author, illustrator and fashion designer. In 1979, The Westing Game, was awarded the Newbery Medal. If you like mysteries and trying to figure out the motives behind the actions of individuals, you will really like this book.

Samuel W. Westing was a millionare in town. He has died and left clues behind as to who his murderer might be. Sixteen people must work in pairs to determine who killed Samuel Westing. The pair who is able to solve the mystery will receive $200,000,000.

Although there are many characters, 13 year old Turtle Wexler is almost seen as the main character. A Mr. Westing challenges the game “participants” with perplexing clues, she is quite determined to solve this challenging enigma.

This book takes many twists and turns and not everyone is always as they appear…

I give this book 4 out of 5 bookworms. It can be a little challenging to read at times, but it is a good one.
